Friends of the Library and Museum

Purpose

Originally established in 1975 and known as simply the “Friends of the Library” to assist in off-setting the basic operating costs associated with the Library, it was reorganized in 2002, and its name was changed to the Friends of the Library and Museum in 2006. The purpose of the Friends of the Library and Museum is to increase and encourage the appreciation of the American Heritage Library and Museum, further promoting the purpose and objectives of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of California, by assisting in: (a) fund-raising efforts; (b) providing volunteer services; (c) support services for both the library and museum; (d) assisting in its collection and preservation of objects of historic interest and importance, including literary and artistic materials, such as books, rolls, records, documents, works of art, and other such historical artifacts relating to that history; and (e) to support the furtherance of historical research and publication of that history for benefit of the general public. Like the operations of the American Heritage Library and Museum, the Friends of the Library and Museum is divided into two distinct areas of support — Friends of the Library and Friends of the Museum.

Membership

Membership in the Friends is open to any person, corporation or business entity, without regard to sex, race, religion, or nationality, that is in sympathy with the objectives of the Society, and that wishes to support the Sons of the Revolution, its library and/or its museum, with the Friends of the Library focusing primarily on helping to raise monies to off-set the cost of general research services offered at the American Heritage Library and Museum. Similarly, the Friends of the Museum help the Sons of the Revolution in providing quality educational programing through the Museum. As there is no charge for the use of the Library and Museum, financial contributions make it possible for the Society to continue this vital service and the Friends of the Library and Museum was formed to assist the Sons of the Revolution in that endeavor.
